Starting a novel or a script can be a daunting task if you’ve never done it before. The Read Team at Little Red Rocking Chair are professionals and experts in the field of manuscript mentoring. Together, we’ll work out a writing schedule for you to get you from the idea to the first page!
From the idea to the first page . . . that’s the first step in our manuscript mentoring and it starts with setting a writing schedule. Once a week, we call you and talk for 10-15 minutes to see where you are in your novel, specific problems you’re having with plot or character, and what you’d like to write next.
As our work together on your first draft continues, we do not focus on endlessly editing your manuscript while you’re writing. Instead, we focus on the writing process — on your characters and on story line, which will surely deepen and change with the second draft. It is much better to have a 300-450 page first draft manuscript completed, rather than focusing on far fewer pages and trying to make those pages perfect.
As you move ahead, we’ll show you how to recognize and develop powerful characters, and add compelling twists and turns to your plot. We’ll also show you how to create sub plots that will become highlights of your novel.
One of the most difficult aspects of writing your first draft is learning how to let your characters drive the story. Most writers don’t understand how to do this. We will show you how.
